The 2019 Electric Crafter

  • All-electric e-Crafter concept unveiled at IAA in Hanover in September 2016. Production model now revealed, less than two-years later
  • e-Crafter made UK debut at CV Show in Birmingham in April 2018, prompting interest from a wide range of fleets and customers
  • Four UK fleets took part in international trials from May to September 2018 to provide feedback and support development of final production model –Gatwick Airport, Heathrow Airport, City of London Corporation and the London Borough of Southwark
  • This follows pattern of conventionally-fuelled Crafter, which was ‘Crafted by you. Engineered by us’ and designed in collaboration with customers
  • Businesses active in urban areas tend to be “last mile deliverers” eg in the courier and logistics sector, craftsmen, retailers, energy suppliers and shuttle and taxi services
  • e-Crafter designed after analysing 210,000 driving profiles of over 1,500 customers, showing most drivers cover between 70 and 100 km per day (43-62 miles) and with multiple stop/starts
  • The e-Crafter has been tailored to these typical city operations with its 100 kW (136 PS) power, high 290 Nm torque output, range of up to 173 km (c107 miles) and top speed limited to 90 kph (56 mph)
  • Lithium-ion battery is completely integrated into the underbody, meaning the standard vehicle’s entire cargo volume (10.7 m3) is fully usable. The same applies to other important dimensions such as the vehicle’s through-loading width (1,380 mm) and cargo compartment height (1,861 mm)
  • A maximum payload of between 1.0 and 1.75 tonnes is available
  • At a CCS charging station with 40 kW (DC) the battery can be charged to 80 per cent in just 45 minutes. From a wallbox (AC), charging time to 100 per cent is around 5 hours 20 minutes
  • The e-Crafter will launch at a gross price of around 69,500 euros in Germany. UK pricing and spec has yet to be confirmed, along with timing for right-hand drive availability
  • Like all Crafter models, the e-Crafter will be produced at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Września plant in Poland
